I shall always remember
"Moses and the Egyptians" 1982 JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT
I paid close attention to the few Basquiat paintings that were there, as I generally love his work. But the color of this painting particularly moved me, so I went to have a closer look. I didn't immediately know what the work meant, first I saw a heart cut in two, then I read the few words written on it, and understood that the painting was about religion .
Then, much later, I saw the profile of a person who must surely have been Moses. I can't really say what I like about this painting, but rather what attracted my attention more than the other works: it was the fact that I found it hard to understand what the author was trying to say
was created at a particularly important moment in Jean-Michel Basquiat's career: after his discovery as an artist and before his period of maximum productivity. The piece is crucial to understanding the evolution of his painting during the 1980s.
At the center of the composition, Moses' profile is suggested by white lines that seem the result of an instantaneous, unpremeditated impulse. This same color not only envelops the gigantic Tables of the Law, but also extends around the prophet's profile in the form of expressive drips and smudges. The tables also contain a series of inscriptions whose organization is more restrained and grouped. This work obviously alludes to a biblical episode, which at the same time may have a link with african history.
JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT made work that is acutely personal and political, referencing painful issues that the artist faced as a Black man in the United States. The mingling of texts and figures, references to literature, anatomy, jazz, and Black history all drove Basquiat's work from the cryptic statements of his early graffiti into complex image/ word works.

The Swan By Hilma Af Klint
Hilma af Klint was a Swedish painter born on October 26, 1862 at Karlberg Castle in Solna, Stockholm. She is considered a pioneer in abstract painting and today she is famous all over the world. His paintings are not just aesthetic works of art, but are full of symbols that can be deciphered. In this way, the works can be "read" as hidden messages.
This painting embody two swans, black and white. They are in an extended position and kissing. The black swan is located on the white background, when the white swan is located on the black background.
This painting display the opposition, difference and contraire between something or somebody. But with this totale opposition (like black and white swan) they are attracted to each other. Opposites attract.

I Shall Always remember…
« My drawing room » , 2008, Yashimoto Nara
This work of art is my favorite in the museum because for me it represents something truly unique. In fact it is an installation, a small wooden house which illustrates the personal universe of the artist. In this one you can see objects and images that are dear to him, such as toys from his childhood, his music albums, etc.
This work gives us a feeling of familiarity because we find the framework in which the artist isolates himself to create, he devotes himself body and soul to his work.

« In foutain of life », (2001/2014,2022) , Yoshitomo Nara
The work In fountain of life, is my favorite due to its unique and fascinating shape. This work also marked me thanks to his message. The faces of children representing innocence seem serene, yet tears flow down their cheeks. This gave me the impression that the work seems to foreshadow a disturbing and dark perspective for the future.

« Puppy « Jeff Koons,1992
My favorite piece of art is Puppy made by Jeff Koones in 1992. I like its simplicity, the flowers that form its coat make me feel harmony between the animal and nature. It inspires me with good weather and the joy of living.

« Tulipes »
Jeff Koons
2004
This sculpture made an impression on me because of it’s bright colours. I also like the fact that even if it’s made of steel, it feels soft and smooth.
- Bazil
I liked it because firstly I appreciate Basquiat's work in general, then the whole inscription written out of order and at first glance without any precise meaning made me want to linger on this work to try to understand it better. Finally, I liked the writing style with this “rough” effect because it is reminiscent of graphitis.

Split Second is a human size art expérience.
This art Work by Anthony McCall created in 2025 demonstrate a real space were only your vision is request.
A silence black room without any touch possibility but a white beam of light into a fine fog really create a intringuing atmosphère for the visitor.

Infinity Mirrored Room by Yayoi Kusama 2000
From the outside it is simply a white small box. But then when you pass the door a perspective of infinity thank to the mirror and the colored light set up a mood. It look like a galaxy with a jazzy feeling.

YAYOI KUSAMA 2020
“I really liked that artwork because it made me feel like I was in another dimension…The lights made the whole place magical. Due to the mirrors, we really had the feeling of infinity out of this little box.”
Nora MESPLIE
Nine Discourses on Commodus, CY TWOMBLY, 1963
“This exhibition of nine paintings caught my attention because of the warm colours and the messiness effect. I found it extremely beautiful especially the most coloured ones. I tried to find a meaning but i couldn't, i never really do with art, so i just continued looking at it and finding it beautiful. ”
Elurra NIETO
“ Smoke Screen | - VII ”, Anthony McCall, 2017
“I was fascinated by the “tube” effect conveyed by the light and the smoke. Even though it’s not colourful it’s very peaceful and dreamy. I entered the room and went “wow !!” and I’m very proud to say that I shall never forget this artwork.”

I shall Always remember
The first time i saw this painting it gave me an impression of immobility and calm that truly enhances my feelings.
The more and more i looked at it I thought that her eyes were going to open themselves in a second it was like I was waiting for this moment.
This piece of art truly embodies the idea of tranquility peace and waiting/patience.
I saw her from far, I got closer and I saw her looking at me. I look at her back and her eyes were sparkling. She is in a purple water which contrast with her orange dress. She seems sad but her eyes are sparkling : her inside beauty and happiness is getting out of her body.
I find this artwork very interesting because it combines art and ecology. The artist collects waste found in the sea to recreate a seascape. The painting is very detailed and abstract at the same time, which encourages reflection and imagination.

« Le Cygne » 1915 by Hilma af Klint
Inspired by ying and young sign, it reflect 2 différents personalities. The 2 colors emfasize the differences between the 2 ways but the shapes emfasize the same forms between the 2 birds ( which represent 2 personalities )

Roy Lichtenstein « Interior with Mirrored Wall », 1991It’s a detailed and realistic work of art. It’s highlights the autor skills. Clean room creat a calm aspect which pay attention to me. The mirror effect makes the room bigger than it’s really is.

And the winners are....
This year, the following pupils have won our mystery story writing competion:
Amaïa, Emilie, Swan and Mariana from 2BEG
And here is their story!
WAS IT REALLY A DREAM ?
When I opened my eyes, I was in a dark and mysterious room. I looked around me, although, I couldn’t see anything. I suddenly heard a phone ringing. Firstly, the sound was quiet but it became more and more noisy. The fact that the phone was in the room and I couldn’t see was really scary. Suddenly, someone answered the phone, I was panic-stricken. The person started to laugh. He said “Yes, I have the person that you want. She’s with me, in the same room. Don’t worry, I will execute the plan in two minutes. Nobody will be able to find her body.” So I realised he wanted to kill me. I was horrified and started to scream.
Suddenly I woke up then realised that I was just sleeping in my bed. I was immediately reassured. I got out of bed, and turned the light on. I saw, on the floor, a phone...that...I couldn’t recognize...

Green Book presentation
In the big screen in 2018, "Green Book" directed by Peter Farrelly make its first apparition. Inspired by the successful novel, the two main characters Tony Lip and Dr. Donald Shirley play the role of o penniless dad who had to work for his family and the other a famous black pianist. That work of art enhances injustices and the struggles black people lives. Here Tony Lip had been engaged by Dr Shirley to be his private driver, but work for a black man richer than him? For nothing in the world. But money issues are a huge problem in Tony‘s life, so he accepts the job against his own will. Time passes, they start now each other, and a real and strong friendship started to be develop between the two men.
Thelma and Louise
This poignant film talks about two women who decided to emencipate themselves from their patriarchal life. It masterfully denounces women right at this time, they were under men oppression. Thelma and Louise represent emencipation by traveling to the west. This movie is inspired by the American Dream. I loved this movie because it talked about a cause that is rarely represented in movies. When we see them in the car at the end we understand that they finally have succeeded from emencipating themselves from a male dominated society. The director Ridley Scott denounced and illustrated the situation by creating an amazing action movie that would convey for any movie lover.
