2025 Annual Review from a European Perspective

Here is Team Swann’s 2025 Annual Review: A European Perspective.

Our new assistant

 Our new assistant is named Autumn. She is from the United -States, she came to France to help French student to learn English and to improve her French. 

She studied English and journalism as her major and Middle Eastern Anthropology as her minor. Her passion his learning languages and reading. She speaks 5 languages. 

Her favorite book is "the goose girl" by Shannon Hale. 

Her favorite food are Italian food and dessert . She has one cat is name is Cooper .

Her favorite movie is "Midnight in Paris". 

We will be working with Autumn this years.

Snow Canyon highschool, Utah

     Today, our pen pals sent us videos in order to present us their highschool. 

     In this video they told us about their subjects on their timeline and their teacher's name on each subjects, about their habits in the school and they showed us parts of their school. Their classroom seemed to be way bigger than ours and there are way more decorations : drawings, flags of america, posters and more. In the room where they eat there were a lot of christmas trees, there was also a room with all the trophies won by sport teams, a place with vending machines, a huge library, a classroom reserved to music with pianos and another room for guitares and drums and a place where the walkers are put, also the corridors are huge. They have assemblies, clubs, sports connected to the school, they are very orientated, for the sport class they have a uniform and some of them have a seminary class which is outside because they aren't allowed to teach religion in the school.

        About sport teams there are teams for American football, soccer, golf, fishing and also drill and cheer teams who dance, compete against each other and cheer their team when there's a game. 

        American school are so different from ours, they have more freedom and a lot more activities and entertainment, most of the students seem to be in a good mood and to like their school, they also seem to be really close to their teachers. 

        There are a lot of things that I didn't know about American schools, it's always great to learn more about them. ❤

Xmas in the USA

 In the USA, Christmas is an important event and they have a lot of traditions.

To celebrate Christmas, the Americans usually decorate their house, inside and outside, in the days leading up to Christmas. Like the French, they buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with their family.
Sending Christmas cards is an American Christmas tradition that allows Americans to invite their loved ones or simply to wish a Merry Christmas to those who are far away through a personalized paper card.
They also hung woolen socks on the chimney and Santa Claus field it with treats.
For dinner, they eat rosted turkey with green beans and cranberry sauce. For the dessert, they eat different kind of tarts with pumpkin, pecan or apples.
On the 25th of December, they open their gifts and spend the day in family.

Merry christmas

 Merry Xmas from Snow Canyon Highschool

We received cards from our penfriends for Christmas. In these cards, they told us about their Christmas traditions. I have noticed that some of them have the same traditions as us, like opening their gifts on the 25th of December on the morning with their family, but however some have very different traditions. Also, some of our penfriends sent us gifts like coins or other things. 

Besides, they also told us about Native Americans. Some of our penfriends have already seen a reservation, some of them have already met some, and some of them even have Native Americans friends.

Celebrating Halloween in Snow Canyon Highschool

 

In Snow canyon highschool, Halloween is a very important even and 

everybody has their own tradition. 

It is a great place where you can find tones of people of different ages, generally young peoples. And here are some traditions that our pen pals do on Halloween. 

Firstly of all there is a famous "trick or treating". During trick or treating children walk house by house and ask for treats and they say the famous sentence "trick or treat" they, also are in costume too try to scare the habitants of the houses.

Normally at the end of the evening the bags of children are full of candy. 

Secondly, our pen pals have other tradition: 

 

throwing a party with their friends and staying out will well past midnight!

New friends from America

  We have new friends from America and they are pleased to meet us. They live in St George, Utah or its suburbs. They would like to visit France. They are 15, 16 or 17 years old. They study French and they like it. They are in the same class. They sent us photos. We are so glad!

We are looking forward to receiving many more letters from Isabella, Dominique, Emily, Trey and their friends.

 

Letter 2 (2018-2019) - St George, Utah

Each student of our class received a second letter from the American penfriends. On the one hand, the American students had to describe themself physically and morally, in French. For example, my penfriend Ethan said that he is tall, he has black curly hair and brown eyes; he has freckles too. He also said that he is funny. On the other hand, our penfriends described their city: St George. We learnt that St George is a small town, located in the desert, in the state of Utah. It’s a hot and sunny place with red mountains. Moreover, this is a peaceful, calm and quiet place and there are many old and nice people. For instance, Ethan wrote in his letter that St George is a place for someone to retire. He added that there aren’t many things to do for kids. However, there are still activities like skateparks and trampoline parks.

Hello Utah! (2018-2019)

Letter 1 in French is a presentation from our American pen-friends, they are around 15 years old and they live in Saint George, Utah. They want to learn French and some of them want to be tri lingual.

The letter in English is a physical presentation and a presentation of their city. First, they tell us what they look like for us to try to find them on a picture. Then, they told us about Saint George, it’s a small town in Utah. It’s really hot there, indeed, it’s a desert. There’s also a lot of red mountains and rocks. And it never snow.

Friends from Utah - 2017/2018

Our teacher made an exchange with students from Utah in the USA. So we had a smashing time! It was a balst! We could talk with penpals trhough different means such as videos, letters... and we spoke about different topics sucha as christmas, vacations, families and global warming. We would enjoy doing it again however we would change just one thing : We would like to meet them in Utah!

We liked to talk to Americans. Interacting with people who live far away was really exciting. But we would really have liked to exchange with them on social media and not only with letters. It could have been great to have friends from Utah!
Also letters sometimes didn't arrive on time and sometimes they did not arrive at all!

All year long we excahnged letters and videos with students from Snow Canyon High school, Utah. It was a new thing for us and it was a very good opportunity for us to be better at English. Thanks to these letters we learned how they celebrate christmas, thanksgiving, the new year's eve, Easter and all the class periods. We compared our school to theirs. Each one of us chatted w speak Frenchith only one American Student which created strong relationships. What was great with the videos was that we could hear foreigners speak French. If we had to do it again we would go for it!

Friends from Utah

At the begining oh the school year, we exchanged letters with penpals from Utah. We talked about us, about global warming, about our school, our city and about Christmas. We sent a christmas card to penfriends, and we gave them a collective gift. Which is a French song, entitled "On était beau" bu Louane. We wisched them a Merry Christmas! We are waiting for an answer. I wish they would sing this song.

We got American Friends who are learning French. They are from Snow canyon highschool, st.Georges from Utah in the United states of America. They are 15 years old. We sent letters to present us, our school and our projects. For christmas we sent letters and we showed them a French song called  « Dommage » from Bigflo and Oli.

We are in Malraux, in second G/H. We received letters from America.
First, we read our letters and we answered them. In our letters we spoke about Biarritz we also presented ourselves, then we presented our school and we wrote a letter about the environment. It was marked.
To finish, we bought or made a christmas card in order to wish them a Merry Christmas !!!

Dear Johanna, 

I want to offer my condolences about the horrible events in Paris. I hope none of your family was injured. I think it is terrible that things like this violent act happened. I wish those terrible things didn't happen. Paris is such a beautiful city and her people as well. Are things begining to go back to normal ? I hope so. If you need help just let me know in your next letter. I hope you don't mind if I ask questions. Do you feel safe to go out and have fun without being afraid ? I hope so. Just know our prayers are with all those who mourn the loss of loved ones.

Oh my goodness ! When I first heard about the attack on paris I was so scared for you guys and I wanted to make sure everyone was okay !! I think that is just so crazy and so scary! How did you feel about it? was it close to your house or your family or friends? I would be so scared! I can't believe people do that. I hope you are doing good! I really loved reading your letter!

The terrorist attack in France was horrible.  I remember when my mom read about it on the internet after it happened.  I'm upset that some people cannot coexist and they resort to taking lives instead.  Are you worried about more possible violence in France?

Hello I heard about the terrorist attack. I am very 
sorry that happened. It’s a scary thing to go 
through. In 2001 we had a terrorist attack as well. 
Even though I don’t remember it, I know how scary it 
was because of everybody else. Although I’m not sure 
what exactly happened in France, I’m sure it still 
must be very scary. I tried to look it up on the 
Internet but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. 
Could you tell me what happened ? That would be very 
nice, I’d like to know. Thank you !

Friends from Greece

Our greek teammates

Last friday, we spoke with Greek students in a video conference using skype. They were six girls and just one boy, he seemed lonely. They seem to have a better canteen than us. They described the place where they live, and also the architecture of their high-school and their schedule. Of course, we answered them describing our high-school and our habits.

Our friends from Greece

On Friday 5^th, December 2014, we had a skypemeeting with the Greeks. We talked about Christmas, school, our country and how we celebrate the new year.

There are 7 Greek students : one man, 6 girls with a profesors. The pupils that we met are 1ère as well.

In Greece the pupils can eat at any hour. They work from 8 am till 2 pm but they have one test every year.

None from Greek ever came to France and none of us from France ever went to Greece.

OUR FRIEND FROM GREECE

On Friday 7^th September we met our friends from Greece thanks to the technology because we managed to see our friends with Skype!

At the beginning we talked about us, our names, our age and our hobbies! There is 1 boy and 6 girls in their group!

After that we talked about French schools. How many hour we have of math or chemistry, how many buildings we have at school and they answered to the same questions!

We learn about Greek schools and we talked about our city: what buildings, what monuments we can find! And the last but not least we talked about how we celebrate Christmas!
